BLACKHAWK!'s Warrior Wear Grid Fleece Garments are perfect as a mid-weight base layer for cold weather missions but are also suited for cool morning workouts and even casual around-town wear.

Warrior Wear grid fleece items are engineered to have a snug, yet stretch fit that allows a natural, full range of motion based on the demands of military and law enforcement personnel. Additionally, the contoured, athletic appearance allows easy layering without restricting your mobility.

Grid fleece is different from typical fleece garments because instead of a solid pile, the fabric is segmented with channels that create squares for a grid like appearance. Besides giving the material a soft stretch, this construction method offers several other advantages.

First, it saves weight and removes bulk from the garment. Notice the outside of this garment does not have the familiar pile look, it has a smoother finish, that's because grid fleece garments can provide equal or better warmth with less material now that the fleece pile is only on the inside. Grid fleece means your garments are much lighter with an incredible warmth to weight ratio.

Grid fleece works like this. The channels created in the fabric allow air to be trapped. Because this air is closer to your body it is naturally warmed. The grid also allows perspiration and moist air to evaporate through the channels much easier than a solid fleece jacket would. Overheating is also prevented with strategically placed side panels without the grid to offer even more breathability. This type of heat exchange makes these garments extremely comfortable to wear all year long by themselves and as layers in the colder months.

The grid fleece garments work great as part of your layering system. Since the outside material is smooth and slick, you won't get resistance from the garment hanging or bunching on the layer you're trying to put on over this jacket. Plus the reduced weight and bulk means your more likely to layer properly and stay warm.

BLACKHAWK! understood that there are many preferences for mid layers so there are quite a few options to cater to these needs. You can choose between full zip garments like the jacket and vest or the 3/4 zip pullover and hoodie. The full zip garments are meant to work with outer jackets and can be zipped into the Warrior Wear Shell Jak.

As a stand alone piece the 3/4 zip garments have two way zippers for added ventilation. The only difference is that the pullover is only collared, while the hoodie has a permanently attached hood.

All garments zip to a mandarin collar and also feature a zippered chest pocket that's is ideal for keys, sunglasses or ID. There is a media port to pass headphones from an mp3 player or phone.

Rounding out the features of the grid fleece garments are high quality YKK zippers and thumb loops on the sleeves of the jackets. The thumb loops are a great practical feature when you are layering or want to add some additional warmth to your wrists.

The full zip grid fleece jacket has one unique feature. Above the thumb hole is a nylon loop which can be used to attach the sleeves to your ECWCS style parka.

All these Warrior Wear grid fleece items are available in black or coyote brown. Order yours at uscav.com today. Watch the video here.

The Lowa Zephyr line of boots offers the soldier in the field a lightweight, breathable and comfortable assault boot with the comfort and high-end features Lowa boots are known for.

View our product video here.

This German based boot company has been building world-class mountaineering footwear since 1923. And with almost 90 years in the boot making industry, they're bringing the expertise in mountain and hiking boot designs to the modern combat boot.

The fit you'll get with the Zephyr is that of a running shoe as it was designed with that purpose in mind. This isn't a boot to ruck cross-country with, but is ideal for anyone who spends lots of time in a vehicle and needs ultimate stability when they have to hit the ground.

The sole of the Lowa Zephyr line of boots has a stickier rubber than your typical combat boot. This makes it have great traction on any surface. It's much softer too, designed for maximum shock attenuation, it's one of the most comfortable combat boots for running and other high impact activities.

A nylon through-going stabilizer gives the boot torsional rigidity to help prevent ankle twisting.

A great feature that sets the Zephyr's apart form other traditional combat boot designs is the distinct bi-injected PU midsole and monowrap frame. The use of PU, or polyurethane, doubles this boots average life for shock attenuation versus an EVA midsole. The monowrap frame and mid-sole structure, is directly attached to the boot via a injection molding process and is bonded to the upper and sole of the boot. This frame envelops the foot, giving critical support and protection but also allowing the boot to retain specific design features essential to any combat boot.

The frame uses a skeletonized design, which helps your foot breathe, reduces weight and excess bulk. The cut outs in the ankle area greatly improve your range of ankle movement without pinching. The monowrap design also allows the upper to have minimal to no padding around the forefoot which also aids in ventilation and keeps the foot cool.

The midsole is also molded up the toe kicker to provide some impact protection to the toes.

The suede leather fully protects the sides of your foot and the nylon mesh panels on top increase airflow.

Nylon webbing loops are used in the forefoot. These help reduce weight and are designed in a way that grasps the foot for a secure fit.

Metal eyelets are used up the remainder of the boot and allow quick cinching of the laces.

A half inch of foam padding is used to surround and support the ankle. Also the tongue is padded down the middle, but the gussets remain un-padded so they will lay flat. Re-enforcement of the tongue ensures that the laces won't cut into your foot.

Inside you'll find a climate control full mesh liner which also aids in the overall breathability and moisture wicking properties of this boot.

The insole is also topped with this climate control mesh. A 1/4 inch of padding is sandwiched between the mesh and a semi-rigid base. This works in conjunction with the injected midsole and frame for a total support system.

The 8" Zephyr is available in Gore-Tex only, denoted by GTX in it's name. This feature was added by request of soldiers in theater, because having a Gore-Tex boot in a desert environment may not seem necessary, but is critical when you encounter less than sanitary obstacles in urban environments.

If you don't need a full 8" boot, the Zephyr GTX is also available in a 6" cut in both desert or black.

Or you can opt for the non-gore-tex 6" Zephyr if you don't need a waterproof liner in your boot.

At just under 2 and a half pounds for the 6" and just 4 oz. more for the 8" these are very lightweight for such a stable boot.

Overall Lowa boots are made extremely well and are robust enough to last. The stitching and materials are top notch and are prefect for a boot to wear outside the wire.
