Our Converse Shoe Name Contest

Back in October, U.S. Cavalry had a great idea: let our customers name the exclusive new shoe from Converse. Alas, there is good news and bad news.

The Good News: Our customers chose a really cool name, the Converse Tactical Taylors.

The Bad News: Because of licensing agreements and legal issues, yadda, yadda, yadda, we couldn't use this name. In fact, we couldn't use any name but the one Converse wanted.

While we are really peeved about this turn of events, it doesn't take away from the fact that we are offering our customers a great shoe, at a great price and we are still going to honor our contest promise.

The individuals that suggested the winning name (Tactical Taylor) are still going to get their free pair of shoes!

The A-TACS Difference

A-TACS® was developed by Digital Concealment (DCS) to answer the call for better and more effective camouflage system integration for duty personnel in any service branch from military to law enforcement. 

The problem with modern digital camouflage patterns currently in use are the square pixels.  These squares used to create the distortion effect do not replicate the shapes, forms and shadows of the environment they are deployed in, especially when viewed through optics. The ninety-degree angles and limited use of natural colors can in many cases, make detection easier.

A-TACS® is different. It replace unnatural square pixels with organic pixels. These organic pixels are created through a patented process that creates a palette of natural colors digitally sampled from real world elements in carefully controlled lighting. The pattern is then created using a mathematical algorithm that writes "organically shaped" pixels using the specific color information given. The resulting pattern while still digital, is far more organic in appearance.

Additionally the use small patterns is utilized.  This creates larger more distinct shapes designed to work at a distance. Small shapes create larger shapes and larger shapes are organized into a distinct pattern with no horizontal or vertical orientation. This unique "pattern within a pattern" concept allows A-TACS® to effectively break the human outline at great distances thereby, minimizing the "blobbing" effect of other patterns when viewed from a distance.

Finnaly, the inter-mingled specially selected colors creates shades more natural than was previously possible. The overall base color for the cast is a neutral tan which is designed for use in open, rocky or arid environments.  You can find a wide variety of A-TACS® gear at uscav.com today.

Magpul AFG2 v. AFG1

If you are thinking about purchasing a Magpul AFG (Angled Fore-Grip) you may be wondering what's the difference between version 1 and 2. Well here's a pretty straight forward comparison…


As you can see in the above photo the AFG1 (Flat Dark Earth) is slightly longer than the AFG2 (Black). The V1 is 5.5" long while the v2 is only 4.7" long.

The width of the V1 is only wider in the foreword section where the sides of the AFG come up and over the rails a bit. The AFG 2 lacks these "wings" and definitely feels slimmer in the hand as a result.

Other than that the Magpul AFG1 and AFG2 are identical. Both are well suited for the AR15/M4 weapons platform, however the smaller size of the AFG2 allows more options for smaller weapons systems that may have limited rail space.

Both feature a polymer three-piece design with an interchangeable finger shelf that allows for a flat "A1-style" surface or an "A2-style" finger nub. All mounting hard wear is included and both AFG's are made in the USA. Get yours at uscav.com today.

NEW Condor Lightweight Tactical Ripstop Pants

Condor has now entered the tactical pant market with their Condor Lightweight Tactical Ripstop Pant.  The 7oz. poly/cotton ripstop fabric makes this pant an excellent choice for all-season wear. Let's take a closer look at it's features and highlight some that competitive pants lack.  

Most "tactical" pants have an abundance of pockets, and the Condor Lightweight Pant is no different. However, the options this pant gives you with these pockets are second to none.

The rear pocket is one of the most used on any pant, and the condor features dual rear pockets on each side.  Casually looking at the pant you would think it's a standard flapped pocket, but there is actually an additional open-topped pocket behind the flapped one.  

With a velcro top closure this is perfect for a notebook on the job or even a pair of pliers while working around the house.  Competitors pants feature one flapped pocket or one open pocket which can be awkward to access or to large to be useful.

The front pockets include an internal coin pocket and are re-enforced so your knife won't wear the edge out too quickly.  

Just to the rear of this pocket is a 5" deep x 1.5" knife pocket on either side and just in front is a 4.5" deep x 3.5" front pocket that should fit most any smart phone. The hook and loop flap on this pocket may also be tucked inside and secured with a secondary closure if you'd rather have this pocket function as an open-topped one.

The two roomy bellowed cargo pockets feature dual internal divider pockets that will accommodate 1 30 round AR-15 mag each, otherwise are perfect for organization.

Finally the calf pockets are 6" deep x 3.25".

Rounding up the features is a self-adjusting tunnel waist, button and YKK zippered fly and slots in the pant cuffs that are drawstring ready.
