Thanks to doctorrich from lightfighter.net for giving us his feedback -

Just finished the GORUCK Challenge Class 247 in Manchester, New Hampshire. I did the Challenge wearing a set of Sand Storm Light Fighter boots. I was the only challenger wearing military footwear, the others were wearing a combination of track shoes or trail runners.

The Light Fighters are LIGHT. I wore them to one drill weekend prior to the GRC so I could break them in. Initially, the area around the balls of my feet immediately in front of the arch was tight and uncomfortable. After some adjustment and walking around for about 30 minutes, the material seemed to loosen up and was no longer uncomfortable.

As I stated earlier, I was the only Challenger wearing military footwear. The Light Fighters are very lightweight but less nimble than running shoes, which is to be expected. However, they were not uncomfortable doing bear crawls and running up multiple levels of a parking garage over and over. I recently blew out an ankle on an O-course 2 months earlier... the added support of the ankle padding on the Light Fighters was a welcome addition and better than I could have expected if I had worn running shoes.

For the 10+ miles of the GORUCK Challenge, I didn't roll my ankle once. The ankle support was excellent. In addition, I wore a set of Vermont Darn Tough wool socks with these boots and spent the entire Challenge wet from multiple trips into rivers and lakes. At the end of the Challenge, I didn't have a single blister. No shit.

The soles of the boots showed absolutely no wear or separation from the uppers, even with extremely tough use while soaked. The only noticeable wear was at the toes with a single popped stitch on the toe and horizontal abrasion noted to the "epidermis" of the leather. This was from doing push ups in the Merrimack River with my toes balanced on sharp river rocks. For comparison, I weigh 180 pounds and this evolution was performed at least 4 times over a 9 hour period in the river.

The drain holes are were freaking awesome. Whenever we would leave Duck Shit Island and cross through the river to begin carrying our picnic table or log ("what rolls down stairs, alone or in pairs, runs over your neighbor's dog? It's Log-Log-Log!"), the water squished out of my wool socks, out through the arch drain holes, and the boots didn't fill up or retain any appreciable water immediately after hitting the road.

In summary-

The Sand Storm Light Fighters are light with excellent water drainage. They are so light that they can easily be used as trail runners.

They showed only mild wear after a grueling 9 hour ruck event and multiple tests while completely soaked.

There were no rub spots on my feet and I didn't have any foot injuries while wearing them.

Log. It's better than bad, it's good.

We know shipping prices play a big part in your online shopping experience. That's why we are proud to announce that in an effort to provide you with better service and more reasonable shipping rates we have made the move to UPS as our primary carrier.

We felt Fed-Ex's home delivery wasn't delivering the best value to our customers and UPS stepped up in a big way. Now you can check out the comparative savings here.

For lightweight packages, the UPS Mail Innovations service provides the most significant savings. For example, a 10 ounce package to California now only costs you $4.27. That's down an incredible $8.02 from the old rate of $12.29! Nearly a 65% reduction passed directly on to you.

Here's another example… Say you're in Afganistan (an APO address) and you want a pair of our new Light Fighter Combat Boots and maybe a new knife. A 5 pound package shipped using UPS APO PlusNow costs $3.34 less at $16.28.

Using the same package as above shipped to Florida via UPS Ground is also going to be $3.24 less at $10.66.

Delivery times are also pretty quick too. UPS Mail Innovations, UPS Surepost and UPS Ground all have a max 5 day in-transit time for the U.S. UPS Ground is even as little as 1 day depending on your location.

Of course we offer UPS 2nd day air and Next Day Air if you need your gear even quicker.

So if you've been putting off an order due to high shipping cost head over to uscav.com today to take advantage of the new savings.

Lighten you combat load with ultralight offerings from Blue Force Gear and First Spear.

Both of these companies have taken a unique approach to the evolution of the MOLLE platform. Let's take a look at Rlue Force Gear's Helium Whisper design.  They have chosen to lighten the weight of the traditional MOLLE pouch system by eliminating all the excessive materials used in the construction of the attachment system. The Natick Snap system, the most common MOLLE attachment backing found on issue pouches, consists of 27 parts at roughly 84 grams or 3 ounces.

Helium Whisper reduces just the backing down to 6 parts at almost half the weight of roughly 44 grams. Additionally, the attachment straps are integral to the pouch and not sewn on, eliminating the possibility of stitching failure.

FirstSpear has taken a somewhat similar but even more evolutionary approach. FirstSpear 6/12 technology eliminates all major components of MOLLE on both the pouch and vest which achieves a 20%-40% reduction in weight. The FirstSpear team invested more than a year developing and testing the FirstSpear 6/12 Pocket Attachment System.

It utilizes state of the art fabric technologies to deliver a completely modular system. From adhesive heat-set backing to laser cut precision attachment points, the 6/12 system provides greater fabric flexibility on unarmored platforms. and tighter mounting of pockets to create a cleaner silhouette that aides in enhanced signature management and mobility.

The 6/12 platform face is completely slick when pockets are removed and allows for easy management of communications cables and wires. FirstSpear's Modular Pockets use micro hook and loop tabs to lock the pouches into the face fabric of the platform through the laser cut slots.

The interlocking of tabs ensures a solid pouch placement with the most minimal weight and bulk.

While both of these systems are state-of-the-art for the modern fighter you may be wondering how these technologies can integrate with your current kit. Well, the Blue Force gear's more traditional design allows their pouches to be mounted on any MOLLE compatible vest as well as their carriers to accept any traditional MOLLE pouches. So with Blue Force you can start upgrading your kit with whatever gear you're needing to replace.

First Spear's pouches are proprietary to their carriers, but the trade off you'll gain with this system is that you'll have the slickest, fastest and most maneuverable kit out there. So you'll have to start our with a carrier form First Spear, well first. However, the good news though is that the laser cuts in First Spear's carriers are completely compatible with existing MOLLE pouches, so you can still use pouches from your current kit.

Both companies offer pouches vests and plate carriers in various solid colors as well as multicam. Find the system that fits your needs at uscav.com today.

Built for combat, with unmatched style, the new Limited Edition Sand Handled Benchmade 520 Presidio Knife is a U.S. Cavalry Exclusive. Only 100 of these knives will be made, so if you're a Mel Pardue collector snatch one up today.

Each knife is custom marked with it's edition number so you know where yours stacks up.

Included is a free Benchmade pouch that's mole compatible. It features a snap closure and Velcro to hold the strap open for quick access.

If you don't want to use the pouch, the included reversible pocket clip is perfect for pocket carry.

The lock back design utilized Benchmade's patented AXIS lock. A 100-percent ambidextrous design, AXIS® gets its function from a small, hardened steel bar which rides forward and back in a slot machined into both steel liners. The bar extends to both sides of the knife, spanning the liners and positioned over the rear of the blade. It engages a ramped, tang portion of the knife blade when it is opened. Two omega style springs, one on each liner, give the locking bar it’s inertia to engage the knife tang, and as a result the tang is wedged solidly between a sizable stop pin and the AXIS bar itself.

It's already been selling, and there are only 20 left as of January 17th, so get one before they're gone.

You can also check out all Benchmade knives U.S. Cavalry carries and all tactical knives here.
